My Interview with Pearl Angeli

Pic for blog

This is my first ever reader interview (hopefully the first of many). I asked Pearl Angeli if she would complete this interview for me after friending her on WordPress, and now Twitter. Without giving too much away, Pearl is from the Philippines and is a fellow book lover and blogger. She also enjoys food, travel and music (yes there is someone else other than me with these loves).

Here is the link to Pearl Angeli’s blog, hopefully you will find it as lovely and refreshing as I did

And here is Pearls interview……….

So tell me a bit yourself……

What is your name? (this can be any nicknames you may have)

I’m Pearl Angeli. I’m simply called Pearl by my friends and colleagues. At home, my family calls me Angel.

What do you do for a living?

Right now, I’m a freelance writer and I do some blogging (mainly book blogging) for fun ‘coz I’m a real book obsessed.

If you could invite three famous people to dinner, who would they be and why? (they don’t have to be living)

Whitney Houston – She’s my ultimate favourite singer. Since I was a child, I used to imitate her voice and sing her songs. I was really devastated when I learned she passed away few years ago.

Paulo Coelho – As one of my favourite authors, I find him really interesting. I bet I’ll learn a lot of sensible things once I meet him.

Ian Somerhalder – I don’t want to miss a single thing meeting my celebrity crush “Damon Salvatore”. He’s one of the most sought-after actors these days.

What are your favourite past times?

I love singing, writing blogs, watching movies of any sort, playing games on my iPhone, interacting friends on social media (Twitter and Instagram), and most especially reading books. During my spare time, I also listen to soothing music. It doesn’t fail to make me feel relaxed.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Oh, I’m big on variety of genres. Give me a book, I’ll take it. But if I’d be given a bunch of books and choose something to read, I’ll definitely prioritize science fiction and historical romance.

Are you reading anything at the moment, if so what is it?

Yes! I’m currently reading Origin. It’s the fourth book of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux Series. I love it so much! It’s a science fiction, romantic, paranormal book that will really knock your socks of. It’s a cracking book!

Name five favourite authors or books

First, it’s Judith McNaught. She’s on top of my list. I love her for her romantic plots and superb character building. Second, it’s Nicholas Sparks. He makes me realize that a book doesn’t need to have a happy ending to be really beautiful. Next, Jennifer L. Armentrout. She’s especially talented. She adds humour to her books which is really engaging. Another one is Paolo Coelho. I love the way he incorporates Christian themes on his novels. It’s simply inspiring. Lastly, it’s Sidney Sheldon. I love him for his mystery/thriller schemes that are kind of intriguing.

If you could be a character from a book, what character would you be and why?

Can I be Anastasia Steele of Fifty Shades of Grey? I think she’s the luckiest and happiest girl on earth. She’s one with a super hot and rich husband. I bet she doesn’t need anything in life.

What attracts you to a book? I.e. do you tend to go for it because you like the cover or that particular author, or do you read the back to find out what it’s about first (you’ll be surprised how many people don’t)

The first thing that I usually check in a book is the synopsis/description at the back. I don’t really care about the cover. If I find the description interesting, I’d check it on goodreads and look for its general rating and then view some reviews about it. That will give me the idea what to expect in a book.

Has any book influenced your life, if so how?

I think I was greatly moved by Paolo Coelho’s The Alchemist. It deeply taught me about life. After reading the book, I learned about how important it is to follow your dreams and not making your life complicated by doing things that are unnecessary.

Which do you prefer e-books or paperback?

Um, both? I love paperback simply for the reason that I can keep it on my bookshelf and boast it to my friends. *laughs. But for practical reasons, I also love e-books since I can store it on my phone or any other gadget and I can fully access it anywhere—even when I’m traveling, rather than carrying bulky books.

Is there any authors you would recommend to other readers, or authors that we need to watch out for?

A lot, actually. But for those book fanatics who particularly love romance novels, check out Lisa Kleypas, Judith McNaught, and Tessa Dare’s novels. And if you guys are more into science fiction, dystopian literature, and paranormal kind of thing, try to check out works of Kiera Cass, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins, and Bella Forest. I find these authors really awesome!

Well, that’s the end of the interview, thank you Pearl for taking part
